Welcome to the first chapter of this new adventure :)
Hello and welcome to my music marketing blog! In case you don't know me, my name is Terry and I have been working in the music business for the last 10 years (wow, that makes me sound old all of a sudden!). I am half Italian and half German and in the last years I have been living between Italy, Germany, Scotland and the Netherlands.
From Germany to Scotland.
My career in the music business started in 2012 after completing a master degree in "international events & festivals management" at Napier University, Edinburgh. By the way, if you are looking to start your career in events, I totally recommend this postgraduate degree as it really prepares you for the real world.
From Scotland back to Germany.
Once I finished my degree, I got an internship with Cocoon Music Event GmbH, Sven Väth's agency that included a record label, event department and booking agency. SOOO many people asked me how did I land such a cool job and my answer was always the same: I sent my application. Even though they were not officially looking for staff, I got an interview with their CEO and got hired.
After my internship, I became marketing & event assistant and the year after I became head of marketing for the entire company and for Sven himself. For the following 5 years, I run the entire promotional machine that was behind Cocoon & Sven by promoting their Ibiza residency at Amnesia (as well as the incredible afterparties...if you know, you know), their worldwide events, their releases and I supported the artists on their roster (including Ricardo Villalobos, Ilario Alicante, Dubfire, Cassy, Nastia, Popof & many more).
Even though I absolutely loved my work with Cocoon, in 2018 I decided that it was time for me to find my own way and this is how Beyond Music Promotion was born. Since then, I supported several artists as well as companies operating in the music business with their marketing strategy and online promotion.
From Germany to Italy
Fast forward to January 2022: we get the unexpected news that my husband got offered a job in Milan, Italy. As this is very close to where I grew up as a child, I was actually super excited to move back to my bella Italia and here I am, sitting in the roasting Italian sun with an espresso writing my first blog.
So what is this blog about?
Good question ehehe. I guess that my goal is to share my professional expertise to help artists & businesses to navigate the crazy music business. Even though from the outside it seems very glamorous, I can guarantee that there is a lot of hard work and tears behind each successful event and artist :)
